Coronavirus outbreak in Romania is an ongoing epidemic, caused by the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV (SARS-CoV-2), a virus that causes an infection called COVID-19, which can be asymptomatic, mild, moderate or severe. Severe infection includes severe atypical pneumonia, clinically manifested by respiratory distress syndrome.

How does it spread: the transmission of the virus is predominantly by air. Patients can infect other people through drops of fluid eliminated by coughing, sneezing, talking, which then come into contact with the hands, eyes, oral or nasal mucous membrane.

How can we protect ourselves: according to the World Health Organization, the most important measure is personal hygiene:

  1. Frequent and rigorous hand washing with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds;
  2. Covering the mouth and nose in case of coughing or sneezing;
  3. Rigorous thermal preparation of meat and eggs, avoidance of animal contacts;
  4. Avoiding travel of any kind, except those of urgency or of strict necessity;
  5. Avoid contact with people with respiratory manifestations (cough, sneezing).

What we do: Since the occurrence of the first cases of COVID -19 and the announce made by the World Health Organization on 31st of January 2020, Diaverum Group has established international procedures for the prevention and management of COVID -19 infections, as well as plans of measures applicable in all countries. Romania also received such a plan and followed it as the epidemic evolved locally.

Prevention and protective measures, established at Group level, both for our patients and staff, consist of training them on how to use the protection equipment made available by the company, how to identify and isolate the potential patients at risk and how to comply with all hygiene and safety measures. In addition, according to these measures, at the entrance to the clinic the triage to be performed by measuring the temperature of each person entering the clinic with a dedicated thermo-scanner and a standardized questionnaire to be filled in, by both patients and staff. Due to these measures, in relation to all persons identified at triage as febrile, after a complete clinical examination that indicates potential risks for the evaluated person, it is called 112, the emergency medical system.

All 27 Diaverum clinics in Romania comply with the plan of measures established by the Diaverum Corporate in order to detect infections and prevent the epidemic spread.

For all patients suspected of Coronavirus or during the monitoring period, Diaverum reorganized the treatment shifts in such a way as to allow their complete separation from the other patients.

However, because there is a high risk of contamination outside treatment areas or clinics during this period, please let us know if you feel that you are showing any of the COVID-19 symptoms, so that we can take all necessary measures to protect you, your family and the other patients.

The treatment of patients in all Diaverum clinics is carried out to the highest quality and safety standards in accordance with international guidelines and with local legislation and medical and non-medical teams make continuous efforts to protect patients from this intra-community spread of the virus COVID-19.

All these are possible due to the dedication and professionalism of an exceptional medical staff: doctors, nurses, nurse assistants, auxiliary personnel, technicians and administrative personnel, who, with total dedication to the chosen profession, are treating all the patients, fulfilling their mission to save lives.

About us: In Romania, Diaverum is the second largest provider of private dialysis services, treating more than 4000 patients in 27 clinics. At national level, out of these clinics, only one has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Until now, no patient has been identified as being COVID-19 positive in the rest of the clinics. Thus, the treatment of dialysis patients of the clinic, with positive result for COVID-19, is carried out according to the protocol established for them, in separate and safe shifts and, in terms of transport, they are transferred to the dialysis clinic and back with state ambulances.

Currently, Sema Parc dialysis clinic is designated by the authorities to treat COVID-19 positive patients in Bucharest and to participate in the joint public-private effort to treat positive patients for COVID-19, the company has started an action plan for the reorganization of the activity. Thus, the treatment of dialysis patients of the clinic, with a positive result for COVID-19, is performed according to the protocol established for them, in separate shifts and in safe conditions and regarding the transport of them to the dialysis center and back it is done with state ambulances.

Diaverum makes special efforts to treat patients with chronic renal failure who are undergoing hemodialysis treatment, ensuring treatment in the best and safest conditions for all patients, negative or positive for COVID-19, respecting the right to treatment and life that is equal for all.
